Alexander Statement on House Passage of Cap-and-Trade Bill

June 26th, 2009 - WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today made the following statement regarding House passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454):

“The House-passed, economy-wide cap-and-trade bill is a job-killing, $100 billion-a-year national energy tax that adds a new utility bill to every family budget. Republicans and Democrats both have plans for a clean energy future. The difference is that most Democrats want to raise prices with this new energy tax, while Republicans want to lower prices with 100 new nuclear power plants, offshore exploration for natural gas and oil, and by doubling energy research and development.”
